"We must go," they said. "This is the Age of Man, and there will come a day when Nature herself will cry out in pain. The rivers will not run clear, and one day the rains will not come. We must go."
And they offered me a place in the first ships. I packed and planned to set out with them, but there were others who declined, who told them that they would be needed, that the day would come when the wolves would cry out in fear, and the trees sigh in despair. Then we would be called upon, and at last they might hear us.
So I, too, stayed, and hid, and waited. And the rivers are no longer clear, but still the water runs, and the wolves howl in fright, but still they howl, and the rains still come, so perhaps it is not too late.
I have stayed, and I do not regret my choice. There is much work to do, and I and my kin, will be much needed.
If you understand what I have said, come in and be welcome here.
