The Countess and the Witch.
It was a dark and stormy night,
and the wind raged with all its might.
The count lay dying in his sleep.
he'd never awake from this dream so deep.
By his side his daughter fair,
sat weeping into her long, flaming hair.
The lightning flashed outside,
while she prayed, rocked and cried.
Then the court clock rang,
the twelve 'o clock hour was sang.
Suddenly a mist filled the hall,
it looked like a wizard had come to call.
But instead a sorceress stood there,
with long, straight, ebony hair.
She was pale of skin and dark of eye,
she said "Your father is about to die."
The girl looked up, her blue eyes clear,
Countess Arianna said "Yes I know my dear."
"My father dies with me as heir."
Arianna said through her hair.
"But Kelina" Arianna said "What should I do?"
" I ought to leave the keep to you."
"No" Kelina said "You are your father's child."
"I am but a witch of the wild."
With that she turned and flew away,
leaving Arianna with only this to say.
"I am my father's child. I am the only one.
I will rule this keep till I am dead and done."
This the Countess said to her people in the square,
the old Count's only child with hair so fair.
And so Arianna did rule until she died,
just because of a witch's lowly pride.
