Antinoüs
Higgledy-Piggledy
Hadrian's favorite,
Born in Bythinia,
Drowned in the Nile,
Gone like the city of
Antinoöpolis,
Left just one legacy:
Statuesque smile.
[This poem was written by the very talented Senex Caecilius, who gave his kind permission for me to 'reprint' it here. Thank you Senex!]
Animula vagula, blandula,
Hospes comesque corporis,
Quae nunc abibis in loca
Pallidula, rigida, nudula,
Nec, ut soles, dabis iocos.
- Publius Aelius Traianus Hadrianus
My residence in Alexandria, The Antinoeion is, as its name suggests, dedicated to exploring what is known and speculated about Antinous. You are welcome to visit!
I have my (much more) frivolous and irreverent moments while holidaying at the Villa Somnium Lacertae, my little place in the gloriously decadent resort of Baiae. Again, you are welcome to visit and share a cup of Falernian with me, my dear friend Spurius, and his seemingly endless number of cousins. The view of the Bay from our garden terraces cannot be equalled.
