Nimue is a Lady of the Lake, an enchantress of great magical power and guardian of the magic sword Caledfwlch. She lives in a castle beneath an ensorcelled lake deep in the mystical Domnonée forest of Brocelïande.
She is famous for seducing Merlinus into sharing his arcane secrets and entrapping him in a magical tower, a cave or a tree (depending on the Arthurian tale). In Welsh folklore, she is one of the Gwragedd Annwn - lake sidhe. Mistress of knowledge and moon wisdom, she archetypically represents primal initiation into the Otherworld.
