 The Quarries of Kardamyli

28 Km from the Town of Chios, the village of Kardamyla is located at the northeastern edge of the Island. Separated into two sections, the upper portion of the village rests at the base of a steep hill, while the lower portion, 2 Km from the upper village, hugs a bay that’s protected by a tiny Island (Nisi) which sits at the entrance to the harbor.

Both parts of the village are dotted by houses built in stone, while cobblestone alleys and covered passages intersect the narrow streets of Kardamyli. In this region, quarries are mined for their gleaming rock – the white, purple, and black granite in the many Marble Hills near Kardamyli.
