Intro
Dear Etruscophiles,
I would like to give a little introduction of myself. In RL I am a classic scholar and an archaeologist, specialized in Etruscan archaeology. Ever since I learned about this remarkable people for the first time in my high school days, I have been interested in them. My bachelor's and master's theses in archaeology dealt with aspects of the Etruscan culture and although my research has still many years to go, I hope to get a PhD in Etruscan archaeology one day! My research focuses on the aspects of city planning, organisation and city founding rituals in the Etruscan world and their adaptation of Greek city planning and building and the Etruscan influences on Roman city planning and building. Once every year, I spend a few weeks in Tuscany, Italy, to do research in situ.
I live in the Netherlands, in The Hague and I did my studies at the university of Leiden. There are only a few specialists in the Etruscan field in the Netherlands and I am very happy to be one of them. My colleagues are spread all over the world, but most of them live and work in Italy. One of the most reamarkable aspects of the study of the Etruscans is, that as an archaeologist, dealing with them, you have to deal with and know a lot about the culture of Greeks, Romans and many other ancient mediterranean people as well, since the Etruscans were not only farmers and famous bronze and iron tool-/weapon makers, they were succesful merchants as well and they roamed the mediterranean and had contact with many peoples.
In AW, I like to keep up the persona of an Etrusco-Roman noble woman. If you would like to have a look at her and the information she provides about herself and the Etruscans, click here
last, but not least, I would like to welcome Camilla Lucretius and Etruscilla Valerius! I hope you will have a lot of fun getting and sharing information and discussing the Etruscans here.
