Exploring the history of the Contenders for the Scottish Crown
This rather complex period of Scotland's political history started with King Alexander III's death on March 19, 1286, which plunged Scotland into a state of turmoil. The main perpetrators were "the Competitor" Robert Bruce, 5th Lord Annandale and grandfather of Scotland's future king, in the South and the Comyn's in the North fighting for the rights to the Scottish crown.
