Cill Dara was one of the major places where Brighid was honored, reverenced or worshipped, in ancient times. With the advent of Christianity, the Pagan shrine was converted onto a Christian enclave. It is interesting to note that the sacred flame was kept burning and the healing waters from the well were used for baptism.
