Gavdos is a small, triangular shaped island approximately 45km south of the western half of Crete. It is low, sandy and covered with pine and cedar trees. According to Callimachus, Gavdos is the ancient island of Ogyia, home of Homer's nymph, Calypso. Gavdos is also the southernmost point of Greece and Europe.
