Vespasian was the first soldier emperor and was responsible for stabilizing the post-Nero chaos in Rome.
9 - 79 A.D. Titus Flavius Sabinus Vespasianus, who had served as a soldier for a quarter century, beat Vitellus to become the first non-aristocratic Emperor from outside Rome. His reign stabilized the excesses of the last Julio-Claudians.
