    Long before Hippocrates, Asclepius founded spas & sanatoria for healing the sick. But was he man or myth? His staff, encircled by a single snake, remains the world-wide symbol of medicine. But why the snake? And why are American doctors so slow to adopt it instead of their double-snake staff of Hermes, god of merchants and thieves, and conductor of the dead?
