Come and pay homage to your ancestors
|
This tradition is an important part of Tet Nguyen Dan. In the weeks leading up to Tet, observant Vietnamese visit ancestors' grave sites and the ancestral shrine set up in the family home (which most Vietnamese have). The graves and family shrine are cleaned thoroughly and gifts of food, money and flowers are left. Incense is also burned. Ancestral shrines for the public along with temples are visited in the days after Tet arrives, where more offerings are brought and prayers given. The Viet peoples are closely involved with their ancestors, for who are we if we don't honor where we come from? You dear visitor may not be Vietnamese, but we all have ancestors. Please use this thread to post a communication or request a blessing on your coming year. Have something big planned? New child coming perhaps? Home purchase or other? Ask them for guidance. I'm sure they will be pleased not to be forgotten! |
