This will be held at the Kituwah (Cherokee Territory) hood on 20th/21st March to "commemorate the gift of fire from the great spirit on the first morning of creation", and Akatena Sequoyah, Moonbeam MorningStar and SkyEyes Sequoyah have worked hard to come up with a fantastic programme of fun and informative events - there should be something for everyone to enjoy and try their hand at here!
As an opening to the upcoming Fire Ceremony, people are invited to share a Native American story on the Story Telling thread (open now), and on Tuesday, March 13 a Decorate A Gourd contest will commence. This gives you ample time to customise a gourd which you can later use to bring ashes from your hearth to the Kituwah Fire Ceremony, so open up the graphics programme of your choice and start painting!
The Festival itself begins on Tuesday, March 20 with breakfast at Kituwah's local hostelry, The Inn Of The 3 Sisters. Guests will then be encouraged to make their way to The Building Of The Mound Event clutching their decorated gourds of hearth ashes if they made one earlier. Following the building of the mound, the Welcome Dances begin, and I understand there will be Native American music and video clips to enjoy (and join in with if you feel inspired to!). On the solstice, March 21 at 9 0'clock EST, the actual Lighting Of The Fire begins.
I'm assured that the The Inn Of The 3 Sisters will remain open all day to serve thirsty festival-goers, and anyone who's ever visited the Blue Macaw or attended last week's debauchery in The Purple Maize will know that in the Americas hospitality is free-flowing (and potent), so there's no excuse for not being thoroughly warmed up for your own Prometheia celebrations later! Don't miss it!
