I have a hard time totally blaming Dad here. I mean, I can see why he'd be mad when his own son not only tried to usurp his throne but then plotted to kill him. Most kings would not have stopped at blinding in such a case.
But I think we run into a problem when we try to consider the actions of these folks based on our own social mores. Retribution these days has taken the long and drawn out form of expensive litigation, which may not be much of an improvement on the old hot-blooded reaction, if you think about it.
That was an interesting tale though. *S*
