I have received a unique and interesting invitation from M. Fabius Furius inviting members of Art of AW to develop and sponsor an art exhibit at the Porticus Argonautarum in the Campus Martius of Rome.

    Excerpt from his invitation:

"Recently I created the Porticus Argonautarum and Saepta properties in the Campus Martius.

"During the Roman imperial [era], the open space of the Saepta was used for public exhibitions, art displays, and an antiques market ... In order to replicate the historical atmosphere and try to increase ‘hood activity, I set up a board for exhibitions and vendors called In The Courtyard. From this I created a provisional thread for art exhibits.

"This thread is not meant to compete with any existing or ongoing art activities elsewhere. I have tried to focus on the Argonauts, Greek art in Rome, or Roman voting/government themes. The space could be used by ... AW artist(s) to show a new graphic or image much the same way as someone might contribute a game or poem or create a vendor stall for the Courtyard.

"What I would really like is an actual exhibition, even on a temporary basis, perhaps sponsored by one of the art groups at AW. Space in the thread header could be used by the “sponsor,” and messages could be posted about the exhibition for as long as it lasts. Possibly, also, a contest or challenge could be created around the limited themes I mentioned above."

Me again: Well, what do you all think? I like the idea, especially the Argonaut theme. It has a lot of potential for creativity. So I am bringing this to the members of Art of AW in hopes that there is some interest in organizing an exhibit along these lines.

Please visit the property (link above) and take the time to read "The Tale of the Argonauts." This myth would be the theme/inspiration for any artwork, poetry, etc. created. I would love for Art of AW to sponsor the event and our active members to contribute on an individual basis. It will be open to all members of AW and will include not only an original graphics exhibit, but also poetry and/or creative entrepreneurship (the vendor aspect) - a multifaceted endeavor.

Please post your thoughts here about such an event, or you can leave a scroll at my or Lara's message boards. We have plenty of time to develop this, as it is not attached to any specific event or date already scheduled at AW. My enthusiasm lies with the Jason and the Argonauts theme, but nothing is written in stone yet. There is plenty of room for all creative endeavors.

Feel free to leave messages at my home if you cannot post here. Again, we would like to make this a sitewide event.
