I've got one even tougher than the Ara Pacis, I think. When we went to Rome in 2000, I'd spent the year before reading, for fun, a big, fancy, website devoted to the "theme park" of Roma Vetus, which was going to recreate the Colliseum (66% scale), the Forum Romanum, Pompey's Theatre, the Circus Maximus ("with real life horse races!"), etc., etc. It had pictures of land bought near Orvieto - a lot of acres - and very complex sketches of what the streets and attractions would look like. The web site was on for a long time. By the time we actually got to Rome, we kept asking what was going on and no one seemed to have heard on it. Later still, the web site quietly dropped away.
I got interested about six months ago, and I couldn't even find a REFERENCE to it. I know the Italians are - um - rather casual about timetables, but has anyone else heard anything about this?
