The actual title is "Marion Zimmer Bradley's Ravens of Avalon" and naturally the author is Diana L. Paxson. Its common knowledge that Paxson and MZB were close friends and often co-writers. Nevertheless, I mistrust Paxson's habit of once again attaching MZB's name to the latest in the neverending Avalon series. What are her motives? MZB has been dead since 1999. Paxson is a good enough writer in her own "write" and let her name to stand on its own merit. It rubbed me the wrong way to see the wording of this book's title.
But I picked up the book anyway and was glad I did. "Ravens of Avalon" is, in my opinion, the best of Paxson's attempts to continue the chain of the Avalon novels. Much of it is predictable, especially if you know your history, since Boudicca is the main character this time. I loved the way the storytelling was woven together with little bits of poetry and song. When I finished the book, it dawned on me that although Boudicca was the obvious main character, the real main character was the Morrigan/Cathubodva, hence the title of the book. If you read it, I think you'll know what I mean.
