As the call changed, signaling a friendly visitor, Haleema jumped down from her post in the cedar tree. The new guy, Haki did the same from his rocky post three yards away. The fresh Watchers were now on duty. Their timing was excellent. This was only one of many weird quirks that benefited her. Not since coming to these Hallowed Woods had Haleema experienced such seeming luck. It was something she learned she must grow accustomed to. One of her teachers had explained simply that fate favoured her.
    Regardless of these strange quirks, Haleema was grateful since she really wanted to hear the news Old Thanos brought from the world outside their town.
    Haki met her on the hidden path and the pair began their ascent in silence. Others from their watch were either far ahead or far behind. "Do you think he brings good news?" Haleema asked softly. She didn't care for drawn-out silences. They made her uncomfortable, even among those she considered friends.
    Whether he was trying to annoy her or simply being the male of the species, Haki just shrugged. In response to his noncommittal gesture, Haleema sighed and tried again. "It has to be good news. We've heard so much bad lately. Two towns have already fallen and the wounded refugees have come to Enir and other towns. Surely Thanos brings us hope."
    Again there was silence and a noncommittal shrug. Haleema gave Haki a meaningful look and finally his silence broke. "What?" It was a start, she thought as she raised her brow meaningfully. At least the young man was intelligent. He finally made a verbal, multi-worded comment. "I guess we'll see what news Thanos brought when we get there."
    Haleema sighed. Maybe silence was preferable after all.
