Chervil (Anthriscus cerefolium) grown alongside radishes improves their flavor and growth. Its a good idea to place taller herbs near chervil becauses it grows best in partial shade.

Chives are not only beneficial to the growth and flavor of carrots. When grown in apple orchards, they prevent apple scab from attacking the trees. Chive tea can be sprayed on to remedy a tree afflicted with apple scab. It can also be sprayed on gooseberries and cucumbers to get rid of powdery mildew.

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) leaves added to the compost heap are very helpful because they have a carbon-nitrogen ratio similar to barnyard manure, excellent fertilizer.

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is one plant that is immune to aphids, which is probably why it is a good aphid repellent. Be careful where you plant coriander though because although it helps anise to germinate, it discourages seed formation on fennel.

Dill (Anethum graveolens) is a friend to cabbage but if allowed to mature near carrots, it will actually discourage their growth, so its a good idea to pull it up before it blooms there.

    More to come!
