The gardentoad.com site was awesome, Winter Mist! Anything with toads HAS to be good.
I've been meaning to post a bunch of companion matches to this thread. Your post gave me a shove. Thanks. :)
ANISE- (pimpinella anisum) when sown with coriander, aniseed with germinate better, grow more vigorously, and form better heads.
BASIL - not only does basil benefit tomatoes in the garden but when laid over tomatoes in a serving bowl, it repels fruit flies. Basil and rue, however, do not like each other so don't try to grow them side by side.
BAY - (Lauris nobilis) is in the same family as cinammon, camphor, avocado and sassafras. Put a bay leaf in your stored grains like wheat, rice, rye, beans, oats, and corn or flours and it will eliminate weevils.
BEE BALM (Monarda) improves the growth and flavor of tomatoes when grown nearby.
CHAMOMILE German chamomile or wild chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) which is real chamomile - not Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) can be distinguished by the hollow bottoms of the blossoms and its highly aromatic fragrance. Not only is it good for onions and cabbage but wheat grown with chamomile will grow heavier and with fuller ears. It should be planted sparingly with other plants, though, or it will harm them. Grown with peppermint in small quantities it will increase the mint's essential oil.
I have more to add later!
