I was afraid I would be too slow with the fine needlework. My eyes aren't what they used to be!
Here is my quilt square for the project. The simplest of the forms caught my attention, as it seemed to say something about the winds' four quarters and also lend itself to a presentation of the four main habitats of North America. The four winds are represented by the ancient Chinese characters with a representation of Boreas, the North Wind, in the center.
The corners are filled with the images of my brothers' homes. From the cypress swamps of the southeast to the redwood forests of the northwest, and from the old-growth hardwoods of the northeast to the desert agava of the southwest, I have tried to capture the spirit of the places for our quilt.
