I was just sitting there eating breakfast in kitchen when I happened to look out the window. Our kitchen is upstairs at the moment and there are some very old tall hazelnuts outside. Suddenly, there was a large spotted, dark brown bird with a strong beak: a spotted or Eurasian nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes). They're rated "least concern", but they prefer more mountainous territory than where we are. Their range is supposed to include some places not too far away, but it is still a pretty unusual sight. Wish the camera had been right at hand. He was gone after 30 seconds or so.
