Why do they always discover these things when it is too late? Maybe the Kush connection was known for a long time, but in the list of priorities not high enough for the archaeologists really to care.
We know from other cases, how much gets lost, when rescue digs are performed in a hurry. As one archaeologist once said: systematic destruction of the evidence. In this case there is probably no alternative.
