At the sound of distant gunfire, the large Sargeant in front of Aquilla stopped in his tracks, and the small platoon with him fell into battle-ready poses. Aquilla wondered what was going on. There seemed to be only one way forward, but that was where the shooting was coming from. "What's up there?" he asked the Sargeant. "Gymnasium, I think," the bassy voice from the darkness replied. Just then Bakari's voice crackled out of the radios, distorted, something about an ambush, need to regroup. Then...Smart Bullets! Now, that made more sense. Aquilla switched to the SB magazine on his automatic weapon, and followed the platoon cautiously towards a massive, half open door. A distant explosion sounded, muffled, from somewhere ahead. "Night Sights" ordered the Sargeant, and Aquilla switched to the strangely green but bright vision. Once inside the door the platoon took cover, watching the sounds and lights of a distant firefight. Some of the platoon wanted to wade in and 'have a go' but the Sargeant stopped them. "My job's to keep you **********'s alive," he snapped. "We signal then wait for orders." A few moments later Bakari's command came back, regroup; and the co-ordinates of his current, relatively secure, location. Aquilla and the platoon moved on swiftly but silently through the darkness of the gymn.
