Odovacar stopped to adjust the straps on his pack when he saw the smoke . He knew instantly that a village was burning. He hurriedly adjusted his pack and retrieved his battle ax.

Odovacar hurried back towards the inn he had stayed at the night before. As the inn came into view he saw that the defenders were in desperate straights, but were putting up a valiant defense of the inn.

Vandals were everywhere. The enemies of my clan and people he thought as he ran screaming into the fray swinging his great battle ax and chanting his war song. I will take a bodyguard of Vandals with me to Vahalla this day if the gods will it....

He fought his way towards the inn where he saw a group of Vandals trying to force the door. Odovacar crashed into the group knocking down some and killing an extremely ugly fellow with his battle ax. He was beginning to enjoy himself now that his blood was roused and there was fighting. He knew it was going to be a great day indeed!
