I let out a huge sigh of relief when Ruaidri tells me the news about Sabio. I was so afraid that he would be lame and useless. It would be a horrible task to have to do away with this magnificent horse. Iberians are prized by the warriors for their courage, strength and speed. I traded two of my best horses for this one, knowing that he will bring me at least three times that value at the Lughnasadh horse fair. That is, if I can stand to part with him. He means more to me than the rich price he carries. I've allowed myself to become quite fond of Sabio, something a good horse trader should never do. Whoever wishes to make him their own will have to prove that they are worthy of such a fine steed.
I stand there, smiling like a simpleton, lost in my thoughts. Ruaidri politely clears his throat, bringing me back down to earth. I see that there's a platter of food on the table. I've interrupted his supper. Finally I find my voice.
"Thank you! Yes, you may keep him here for a few more days, to rest his foot from whatever strain he suffered from the broken shoe. Please, finish your meal. I'm sorry to have interrupted. I'll visit with Sabio for a little while if you don't mind, then I should get back to Wild Oats."
