Kadar Seneb had gotten in his mind this idea of blocking the traitor's way out of Egypt even though he knew not his name or apparience, well, knowing Kadar that would be understandable, but what in Amun's name was he thinking when he decided to bring all the family along in his travel upstream the Nile to Menphis?, Kalil their firstborn had complainted he had being forced to leave men watching over the family business, Nashira had protested so much that Kadar had to threaten her with beatings to subdue her stuborness, and Nefer -who had being acting quite strange these days- did not complaint at all, her appetite had been craving for all kind of food she would usually loath, that itself had cause a sting of uneasiness in Dahab's soul, the silent rivality between them had not erupted yet but it may very well erupt if Dahab's suspicion proved truth, Kadar had taken Nefer as his second wife that in itself was uncommon, the oldfashioned tradition of marring relatives was usually between half-sister and half-brother only.
Even before boarding the ship Nefer started vomiting every food withing her bowels, still she stubornly refused to see a medic, the ship sailed west and then south following the Nile upstream the formally rebellious children started enjoying the beautiful sight of the banks of the Nile, farms and vegetation, irrigation channels, livestock grazing, fresh air on their faces, it was a delight for almost all of them, all but Nefer who was dizy and had upset stomach, Kadar was intrigued by these apparent lack of health in a girl so normally healthy, Nefer had done this trip many times in the past so it was strange that she would go sick this time, but Nefer would answer her father's inquires with ambiguities and evasiveness.
Jad Jassim had begged his master Kadar to be allowed to stay in the house and keep eye on family business but the arrogant Kadar wanted his family to behold his glory when he captured the traitor and wanted his accountant to help him estimate a proper reward that wont hurt the family's economy, Jassim was sweating like never before, and then it dawned in Dahab's mind the truth of all this situation, Nefer and Jassim, Jassim and Nefer, for once she felt relief of that feeling of being the second woman in her husband's heart, but on the other hand if Kadar would know the truth it was likely to be nefer's doom, literally.
"What do you reckon happens to her my sweet Dahab?" asked Kadar taking her by surprise and pulling her abruptllu from her thoughts, "No idea, some bad datefruits perhaps?", she shrugged casually and realized she had said exactly what she shouln't, "Well if that's so we'll stop at Gizeh to get a medic for her" he said, Dahab wouldn't dare trying to persuade her husband from getting a medic for Nefer cause it would look suspicious, *Very well* she thought *We'll stop at Gizeh and be it what the gods will*.
