and all too brief visit to Roma, I was unable to visit the Ara Pacis. Everyone I asked told me that it was closed to visitors now, but no one knew why, which of course, piqued my interest.
Does anyone have a clue as to why this would not be open to the public? Restoration, perhaps? And does anyone know more about this monument than I do? Silly question- I just know it was erected by Augustus. And now of course, I just HAVE to go back and hopefully see it.
The Domus Aurea was only available to view by appointment, and since no one answered the phone, I missed that one, too. However, I did hear that it would be open this year....
