This year it is the Spartens who have brought us the best horses. We salute you and crown you with laurel wreaths. The horses are crowned also.

This year the winner of the four horse chariot race, the two horse chariot race and the Kalpe [mares] is Sprata. The Prince of Sparta Lysergus Dionysis will accept golden palms for all of these events.

The winner of the full grown Keles is Syracuse, represented by Speros Xanthippos of the Delian League.

Delos is proud of it's winners and it's contestants. May the gods smile upon you and be gracious to you till next year. May we see you all again on Delos.

The crowd cheers and the music starts shrill and loud. Everyone starts clapping and stomping their feet. Everyone joins hands, both men and women. It is a long circle. Everyone able gets up to dance. It is an ancient ritual. They will dance the night away. All through the town they go, with only the moon and stars to guide them. In the middle of the circle stands the sacred white bull. They sing to him and call to him. He stomps his feet. He does not join them in the revelry. He calmly awaits his fate. He has led a pampered life of ease and does not know what to make of all of this; for his senses have been lulled by the seeds of a poppy plant. He is not young, and he has led along life. He has bred many fine sons and daughters. In the end, if all goes well, he will die a peaceful death in the sea. A new young bull will take his place. This is much as it is done in Egypt. Here sometimes the bull is not ready to go at this time, and he picks another from the circle who will go in his place. In truth, he never really does have a chance.
