were born into the same caste and were expected to undergo training from boyhood. Some kshatriyas took on the role of brahmanas and could enter the holy dharm by becoming renounced. Thus they would practice spiritual life and be celibate. But this I believe wasn't the norm. Dont quote me on that. Maybe someone else might know more and can let us know here. As for the second point, there were other duties kshatriyas could perform such as governing others, undertaking organizational duties or serving in court as diplomats or in administration positions.
Vedic astrology also played an important part in everyone's lives that astrologers would inform the parents at the child's birth what duties would suit the person's temprament and personality. Thus as they grew up they were encouraged to follow the path most suitable in accordance with their horoscope. Unlike today, the caste system back then was very rigid and persons were only allowed to function within the prescribed duties of their caste. It was considered sinful or a great offence if someone operated outside their birth caste performing the duties of another caste.
