The translation is right under the poem but I'll do it like this:
Jana Gana Mana Aadinayaka Jaya he
Thou art the ruler of the minds of all people,
Bharat Bhagya Vidata
dispenser of India's destiny.
Punjab Sindh Gujarat Marata
The name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, and Maratha.
Dravida Utkala Banga
Of Dravid, Orissa, and Bengal.
Vinchya Himaachal Yamuna Ganga
It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Yamuna and Ganga
Uchchala Jaladi Taranga
and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.
Tab Shubh Name Jaage
They pray for your blessing
Tab Shubh Aashisha Mange
and sing thy praise
Gahe Tab Jayagata
?
Jana Gana Mangaladhayaka Jaya He
The salvation of all people is in thy hand
Bharat Bhagya Vidata
thou dispenser of India's destiny.
Jaya He Jaya He Jaya He
Victory, Victory, Victory,
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya He.
Victory, Victory, Victory, Victory to thee.
Obviously, there are a few added words to make it more poetic in English. I'm not sure I put the right translations on the right line either...that "Gahe tub jayagata" line is very mysterious.
Again, watch the version of Jana Gana Mana on Youtube by A R Rahman.
