Miltiades was an Athenian general. He was responsible for the Greek victory at the Battle of Marathon, by successfully checking a Persian invasion. This gave the time to Athens to prepare for their arrival after the battle. The Athenian army marched forcibly towards Athens and deployed in formation. When the Persian fleet arrived and saw the Athenians prepared for battle, they turned back. Sadly, for his efforts, Miltiades was prosecuted by an opposing political party the next year.
