With their forest home disappearing at a terrifying rate, it's estimated that orangutans will be extinct within 10 years. Those in the UK can follow Orangutan Diary on BBC to see the work of The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, whose single aim is to ensure a wild future for endangered orangutans. The Foundation rescues animals both from the wild and from illegal captivity, and educate them with the aim of returning as many as possible back to the wild.
Sadly, there are more orangutans coming in than the sanctuary can cope with, and finding safe forest to re-home them is getting harder. The Foundation is running out of money, and may have to close, ending the orangutans' last best hope of surviving as a species. If you want to help, you can make a donation here.
