It's not that Arundinaria is in danger of extinction, it is simply that it is being forced out of its habitat in The Southern Applachians.I know the plant well and know that it has a huge range and is prevelent throughout the deep south and as far west as Texas and North Eastern Oklahoma.I'm happy to see that it is being re introduced in protected areas in The Southeast. It unfortunately prefers the best growing lands. It will do well however in a wide range of conditions. it would seem to be merely a matter of re locating stands of it. fortunately, people are doing just that. I would add that it is becoming a very popular landscaping plant in large gardens in Florida.
