There was a discussion about the use of opium in ancient Egypt during the first season of HBO, in this board.

If you browse down in the main board screen, you'll find a thread called "Episode VIII: Caesarion", where a discussion was conducted by some members on the use of opium in ancient Egypt, and its possible use by Cleopatra.
