I take your point about the details which I didn't give you, and it would have been possible to do some of that. OK - now I know that once you have committed something to the page you lose control of it, as it were - the effect in the minds of people reading it may not necessarily be one which I was attempting to convey, but here's my explanation of Amelia's position. Its really a kind of moral hypocrisy. As you realise, Amelia is in an initial interview with a computer dating firm. She hates herself for doing it, and for much of the piece is really in a state of denial. In her own mind she has managed to completely dissociate what she is doing from what her friends do in trying to set her up on blind dates. Her psoition is a hypocritical one, but then as you point out, that's not so far removed from real life for many people. Thanks for your comments, always useful.
