First, a clarification about my previous post here in the Wine Bar (“Preparing for the end”) where I might have given the impression that the unhistorical fate of Caesarion relates to the series “claim” that he was not actually Caesar’s son. Not so. I agree with Heraklia that we cannot know 100% that he was Caesar’s son, although I personally think he was. What I meant to say, in my post about this last episode historical incorrectness, was that among the various ancient and modern sources which I have read, I never found any hint that Caesarion might have not been killed, as ordered by Octavian.
Having said that, I'd like join those who were online last night, celebrating the last episode of Rome, and say thanks to our own Titus Pullo (from the HBO Rome board) for providing us with such a nice place for the end of series celebrations, here in AW. Really, really thank you! Unfortunately, I ran out of my daily post quota, and could not say thanks, nor goodnight, at that board. But I truly enjoyed every post.
Also, thanks Antonia Marius, Xtreemli Curious, Titus Pullo Lupus (again) for the kind invitation to join the role play Rome board. I am giving it a serious thought, despite all my time restrictions.
And big, big thanks to all the people who made the discussions here so provocative (in the good sense) and irresistible. Also thanks for putting up with my grumpy “historical” jabber.
And last, but not least, my dear (old, ancient) friend Heraklia - who tireless keeps all these threads alive - thanks for your ever kind remarks, and clever comments on everything Roman. Years ago, I was surprised by your wonderful website on Caesar’s life (http://web.mac.com/heraklia/Caesar/), and only recently I came across your internet pages about Augustus (http://web.mac.com/heraklia/Augustus/). Must be a demigoddess to handle so much here in AW, and still present us with such great historical websites!
