Shuai Tiao is an excellent swordsman, but of common birth and perpetually lacking in funds. He advertises himself in Chang'an as an available guide/escort for travellers on the Eastern Silk Road, but what he probably won't tell anyone thinking of employing him is that he's only ever actually crossed the Taklamakan once before, as part of an armed escort for a large silk caravan, and has never been further than Kashgar.
Appearance-wise, he resembles his avatar remarkably well. Personality-wise, he tries to follow the philosophy of xiá *, but since nothing is perfect in this world he's more than subject to common human failings, and his motives are rarely as altruistic as they should be. Beyond that, I'm setting nothing else in stone ;)
* Xiá 俠, a code of conduct which emphasizes righteousness and honour, rather than personal gain or indeed one's own life.
