    From what I can gather from the BBC article, new imaging techniques have confirmed what has long been suspected. Inscriptions on the gears and dials have been read for the first time. There also seems to be a new theory of how it all fit together and the possibility that it displayed not just solar and lunar motion, but also the visible planets as well.

    This is also the first time I have seen the suggestion that this was not a unique device. Rarely is it pointed out that this is the obvious end product of a lengthy development. And as such, it is unlikely that only one would have been made.
