FeAudrey called my attention to a most important discovery of a fascinating device found in a shipwreck near Antikythera island, off the southern coast of Greece. The device appears to be a complex and sophisticated set of gears, rivaling the work of 18th century clockmakers and was probably used to predict eclipses of the moon and sun.
This article from the BBC News has even more renderings and The Telegraph has video animations of the original device!
The Greeks have much to be proud of, it seems!
