L. Caesar, cos, to P. Nero, propr. Hisp. Cit., greetings!
If you are well, I am well. I thank you for your letter and kind words. Naturally I followed the dangerous situation in the north of your province, and your decisive actions at Iturissa. You are to be always commended for them. You had to do much fighting in the last couple of years; I understand you wish and hope for a peaceful consular year. If Sisenna is elected as is likely, this will then be fortunate for you, for any difficult command abroad he will probably take in hand.
I hear rumours you are to be married again! Is that a fact? It is a wedding I would be delighted to attend, but it seems our paths will likely not cross in the next couple of years: I am going away from Rome as you come back, and you will probably leave yourself when I return... That's the way of things. May the gods smile on you, and keep you safe.
