    Quirites,

During my year as one of your Tribunes I have exercised the right to veto on two occasions. First in April when a measure was introduced that would, in effect, have taken away your power to elect Praetors. Second, in Sextilis when there was an outrageous attempt to waste Public Money on private celebrations. I have, in other words, been alert to your interests and the safeguarding of your rights and privileges.

I served you last year as Gladiatorial Aedile, providing double shows for most months, and bringing in several innovations to make the Games more entertaining.

I had proved my abilities in the financial field during my time as Quaestor in Hispania Citerior in the year DLXIII, when I also assisted in crushing the last vestiges of resistance to Roman rule in that Province.

I now ask for your votes as Aedile once again, with my eyes fixed on the position of Races Aedile. I know that this will deprive you of the spectacle of my own wonderful and innovative chariot, but you can rest assured that the Races will always be held and that I will use my best endeavours to attract generous sponsors.
