The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna is a huge museum with many different collections, below are just some of them:
Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection, Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities, Collection of Sculpture and Decorative Arts, Coin Cabinet, Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments.
You can walk for hours and hours, the collections are quite something extra!
The Egyptian Collection from all periods is wellknown for itīs collection of monuments from the Old Kingdom. There is a mummy & sarcophagus room, and a statuary, both of which you can see images of, at their website. A drawback is that they havenīt put up what it is you see, no labels, just a general view of the room. There are 9 rooms all together and itīs well worth a visit, should you go to Vienna.
The museum has a well-filled shop with quality stuff, also worth a visit. Not cheap though. There is also a restaurant and a café, which greatly improves your inclination to expand your collection-viewing ;)
Just across the street is the Lipizzaner Museum. You know, those white horses from the Spanish Riding School, which they make do the most marvellous tricks. That is another thing you mustnīt miss! ;)
Their website is ok. Thereīs an English and a German version, there are some galleries showing assorted paintings and artifacts online, there are news and a survey for some of the collections that visitors can fill in. But somehow the website is a little bit boring Iīm afraid. It sort of doesnīt appeal to your imagination and for my part, Iīm happy Iīve been there for I know this museum is one of the best in all of Europe. This is not quite reflected on the website.
