I misspoke (or rather, miswrote) myself in that post, suggesting that Wuffing was a mythological name.
And by using "surname" in that post, I was referring strictly to "surnames" in the AW sense, as used as family names. I'm fully aware that most people of western Europe didn't carry surnames until the Middle Ages.
