As Plautia and her freedwoman, Clodilla, were in Pompeii on an extended period of rest, the first place they decided to visit was the market. After making a spate of purchases, Clodilla espied the Pompeii Thermopolii.
"Madam, this caupona looks like a respectable place where we can cool our heels and get out from under this horrible sun." said Clodilla, who was carrying most of their packages.
"What a wonderful idea, Clodilla! I realize I'm quite famished." replied Plautia, already turning her feet in the caupona's direction.
Upon entering, the pair seated themselves at a small table by the front window. The proprietess approached.
