    Well, sort of. Some of the cognomen do show up as names - Caesar being the first that comes to mind. Some have taken advantage of it and we have a Quintus Julius Caesar, etc.. Others have placed the cognomen between their praenomen and gens name - not exactly historically correct.... And then others just add it in their signature line.
