And did focus this hope on the gods before eating any of his crops, the usually, if not always held a simple religious ceremony to thank the god of the fields for his benevolence. With the first fruits of the harvest, foods and beverages were prepared --- and were hung in special containers in the trees which were located at the entrance of the fields, so that the gods could partake of them. If this was not accomplished, they would feel uncomfortable, believing that this god could forget them the following year and with draw his protection....
