. . . on Violin. It was big yawn~fest, for me. However, I did like Feast. While it differed from the others we've agreed on in not being Gothic (following the parameters delineated in Gothic Experience» Architecture), IMHO any novel set in New Orleans is Gothic by virtue of that setting. It gave a rare glimpse & understanding of the bygone world of quadroons & octaroons, particularly of the men. Similarly, Cry to Heaven is another "stand alone;" this time focusing on C.18 castrati, as viewed thru the eyes/experiences of a young aristocrat whose forced into the life by the Church because of his pure pre~adolescent voice.

*Have not yet met a man who's able to read it

The Beauty Trilogy was quite the surprise for me. Like a strange rhyme, Anne Rice took the classic faitytale & gave it twist:

    S & M and B & D,
    maledom, femaledom, bisexuality.

The others that complete the Trilogy, Jalane, are
    Beauty's Punishment & Beauty's Release.

If you've not yet explored her website, go now to Anne Rice.com. Particularly illuminating is her archive of messages. While I adore her like a sister, I can't help but be disappointed in her return to Catholicism. Purely selfish on my part, I know. Her husband's passing hit her hard & Katrina didn't help. While having returned to the area, Metarie ain't NOLA! It just doesn't provide the kind of inspiration that produced the Gothic novels we all came to know & love. If it sustains her, then it's all good & I wish only the best for her.

*Anne, Darlin'? I'm still waitin' on the sequel to Ramses.*
