...but shouldn't we be discussing this on the "Writing for RolePlay" thread? I mean...how will we ever find it later otherwise?
Yes, I find the historical RP's the most difficult milleu-wise, too. I can't write Roman, for example. I don't know enough about the history to add the little touches that make a piece fun. I'm still good enough at dialogue, I guess, but even that becomes difficult sometimes. So..maybe we need some focussed exercises designed just for determining the best way to add period flavor without making us spend weeks researching the life of Julius Caesar. Anybody got any ideas? (Personally, I'll have to ponder it a bit.)
Also, I like Cail's idea of a "Writing Partners Wanted" thread. You could post the name of your RP group in the post title and then something about your character and what you're looking for. People could go there even if they aren't SP members and read the board to see if there's anyone looking for them! Heck, we could advertise for people outside SP who contact us with their specs. Maybe we could appropriate Pandora's Box for that. It was for advertising groups that needed RP writers, but it never took off. There's only one post there and I'm sure Lotus won't mind if we spin the thread usage a little.
Come to think of it, maybe we can partner off occasionally on assignments here. Two partners could come up with complimentary posts and then post them here back-to-back. This is an idea worth exploring....
