Famous for it's harsh winters, the homeland of this breed produced sturdy, large built cats with thick protective coats.
But they are definatley made for survival in tough conditions,
the top coat is thick and oily, and the undercoat is very thick and quite curly.
They are not though slow in any way, they are highly agile and very active. Although very sociable, they aren't really lap cats.
